Slovene comparative adjectives animals

I wouldn’t say that we just simply add something and we have a Slovene comparative form, but that just wouldn’t be Slovene😁. Let’s compare some exotic animals: sugar glider from Australia (sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica) and a gerbil (a little rat, in Slovene mongolska puščavska podgana, I will call just gerbil😜) from Mongolia and learn some Slovenian comparative adjectives.

majhen – manjši; small – smaller

velik – večji; big – bigger

drag – dražji; expensive – more expensive

poceni – cenejši; cheap – cheaper

Gerbil je manjši kot sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica. Sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica je večja kot gerbil. Sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica je debelejša kot gerbil. Sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica je starejša kot gerbil. Gerbil je mlajši kot sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica. Sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica je zanimivejša kot gerbil. Gerbil je lepši kot sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica. Gerbil je bolj vroč (body temperature!) kot sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica. Sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica je dražja kot gerbil. Gerbil je cenejši kot sladkosneda poletuša vrečarica.

As you see, sometimes we add -ši, -ejši, bolj and there are exceptions! For them simply add -ši or -ejši is not an option 🙂
