Sahara desert video&text

Text

The Sahara is the world’s largest desert and stretches across the entire width of Africa. Morocco is home to some of the Sahara’s most spectacular dune formations. And plenty of local guides offer adventures deep into the desert. Most tours can be arranged out of major centres like Marrakesh and head straight for the star attractions of Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga.

This unforgiving landscape is home to the berber people many of whom still live a nomadic desert lifestyle. They’re able to survive in this environment thanks to expert knowledge of the land passed down through many generations. It may look dry all the way to the horizon but if you know where to look water is never more than a few kilometers away. The Berber people are constantly on the move searching for the water, plants and animals that can sustain them. They use light to signal each other across vast distances as they guide visitors by camel to the dunes of Erg Chigaga. This 40 kilometer stretch of golden dunes can reach heights of up to 300 meters. And climbing them is the classic Saharan experience.
